I am a licensed psychologist who specializes in treating children, teens, and young adults. My role as a psychologist is to accentuate your child’s natural strengths and equip your child with skills to handle the particular challenges they face with resilience. I believe a therapeutic relationship should be warm, sincere, and purposeful. Many of the youth I work with are high-achieving and seeking strategies to manage the stress that accompanies ambition. I also have experience with social anxiety, generalized anxiety, depression, and problems with anger.

THERAPEUTIC APPROACH

My therapeutic approach is based on the core tenets of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing. In a nutshell, this means that I help clients pursue a life consistent with their values and goals and help them change thoughts or behaviors that may interfere with this pursuit. I place a very high value on family and believe that the child, parents, and myself are a team working to accomplish the same goals.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

I earned my doctorate in clinical psychology from Southern Methodist University. While in graduate school, I published research on children’s coping with marital conflict and received specialized training in the treatment of anxiety disorders. I completed my clinical internship at Texas Child Study Center (Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin) and a postdoctoral fellowship at Children’s Hospital Colorado in Denver. Prior to entering private practice, I worked at a local non-profit mental health agency treating youth and young adults and training graduate school students.

PERSONAL LIFE

I am an avid distance runner. I love to visit national parks and hope to see all of them in my lifetime. I spend some of my time volunteering at my church and as a mentor and lots of time hanging out with family, friends, and my golden retriever.
